Frequently Asked Questions

People pursue martial arts for myriad reasons, as such you should check out many styles and schools to find a place that is comfortable and in-line with your goals.

Q: What do I need to do to get started?
A: Send an e-mail to MGJschool@gmail.com and indicate which areas group you are interested in. You will be contacted by one of our instructors who will fill you in on the details.


Q: How old can I be and train?
A: MGJ teaches students 18 years old and older. We believe that it is never to late to start, but due to the nature of our curriculum we do not have kids classes.


Q: I have been injuried in the past or am not in my best shape; can I do martial Arts?
A: Yes! We tailor training to your level of flexibilty, fitness and any limitations.  We train for the real world and that includes working with what you have and working towards improving your fitness, mobility and flexibiltiy.


Q: Does MGJ do competions?
A: No; MGJ is a self defense oriented art. We don't have anything against competition, but its not what we do.


Q: What is the lineage of the school?
A: MGJ teaches using integration of many different styles of martial arts.  Each style has its own distinct lineage.  MGJ is a school of thought, not a style of martial arts. See the "About" page to learn about MGJ.


Q: Does MGJ teach weapons?
A: We focus more on defense against weapons.  Students will start to learn basic stick fighting techniques in early ranks.  At brown belt additional weapons will be taught and assigned by your Sensei.
